The busy season- Arlington, Vermont Wedding Photographer

Wedding season has officially kicked off, but in a much more relaxed manner this  year!  After deciding to cut back on the amount of weddings I do, I have some more breaks in between my summer weddings and then a quick whirlwind of three weddings in three weeks before it slows down again before ending the year with a Christmas Eve wedding (talk about fun!!)  Some of the things that I look forward to enjoying a little more this year are county fairs, hearing my daughter laugh, and watching the leaves change.  It really is all about my family for me, while at the same time enjoying what I do and keeping it that way.  In the meantime, I’m in the middle of a major website and shopping cart re-do…….something I should have done a long time ago.  I’m keeping things more simple and more me and I think that the new website reflects that.  I’m hoping to have everything up and running within a couple of weeks, but here’s a little sneak peek……

Still got a bunch more photos to add, but I think that it’s coming along nicely!  And the online shopping cart is going to be so much better for everyone involved so I’m really looking forward to working on getting that all set up!  Anyways, with the holiday weekend, a wedding and my birthday ahead, I hope that everyone enjoys this time with your family and loved ones!!

A long time in the making- Arlington, Vermont Photographer

When we first moved into our house, we knew what we were getting ourselves into.  We knew it would be many years before the remodeling was done, especially since we’re doing most of it ourselves which limits us to the weekends and time after work.  The downstairs bathroom would need a sink at some point since just having a toilet wasn’t the most sanitary and quite strange to boot!  Once it was time to start the bathroom remodel, a hard decision needed to be made.  Do we expand into the dining room and get rid of this (this is from the day that we closed on the house)…….

It was a charming piece of the house that although sweet, had a lot of wasted space in front of it that we could better utilize by expanding the bathroom and putting the washer and dryer against the wall.  It was a sad day seeing this go, but it lived a good life and parts of it, would still be a part of our house….

I FINALLY got around to hanging up one of the glass doors- a project that I’ve had on my mind since the day we decided to knock it down!  We still have another door left since one of them broke and I may put it up in the kitchen with photos of my husband fly fishing behind it, but I guess we’ll see.  I just loved those photos of Lillian so much that I had to put them up on my walls (and just in case you’re wondering- I had them mounted and then I attached them to the wall using some the 3M adhesive that it removable.)

I love the original hardware!!

The cabinet in the corner was another recent project!  It was Dan’s grandparents bookshelf and I knew that we could use it in the house, so a couple coats of mustard paint made it as good as new!

I had Dan drill a large hole in the back so I could put my heavy as all heck printer on there and then I have some of my pretty things on the shelves and my not so pretty business paperwork, etc in the cabinet below.

Finally had a spot to put my cross stitch that I randomly made up one day!

And a cute spot for the needles that were in my grandmother’s sewing table (in the photo above.)  I love my little area a lot more now that stuff isn’t out in the open and I think that it will be a lot easier to clean!  I’ve been completely consumed with my daughter’s birthday party that I haven’t done any sewing in a couple of weeks, but I’m hoping that I’ll be able to start back up next week.  I think that it’s been helping me out a lot lately with my stress levels……it’s nice to have some time to myself and having something pretty to show for it in the end…….kind of like taking photos!  I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend…..looks like it’s going to be a beautiful one in the Northeast!

April showers brings May……flowers or more rain?!- Arlington, Vermont Photographer

It’s been a rainy May for sure here in Southern Vermont.  I’ve had to cancel and reschedule a couple of my sessions up to three times because of the weather- but as a natural light photographer, I’m always at the mercy of the weather report!  On the plus side, our grass is nice and green (always have to look at the positive in things!)  One of my favorite things about this time of the year is watching the tree in our front yard bloom.  For me, it’s a sign of renewal and of new things to come.  Late last year, I decided that I would start limiting the amount of weddings each month and portrait sessions each week that I capture.  Being a business owner is all about learning what your limitations are and understanding what’s most important to you in life. For me, that’s my family.  Sure………I could take on more weddings a year and shoot 4-5 senior sessions during the week during the busy season…….but at what cost?!  This year is going to be a slower year for me, and so far, I’m liking it that way!!  I’ve decided that I’m going to limit myself to 2-3 sessions during the summer/fall, but I’ll be holding an early bird special starting next week which will run into mid July.  I’m also very happy to announce that I’ll be doing a fundraiser with my daughter’s school this fall for a two-day mini-session event (details will be coming soon!)  Balance is the word of the year for me and I think that it will make me love what I do even more if I’m able to keep what I do as personal as possible.  I love what I do, I love my life, I love my family and I love my tree in our front yard……
