Things I like Thursday- Vermont Wedding Photographer
This post should actually be titled “things I love” or even better “things I love to do with those I love”……but that’s a bit long winded! My daughter Lillian is turning 11 in a couple of months and I can’t even begin to tell you how quickly time has flown. I think that when you only have one, you become more aware when you glance back at your old photos (darn you Facebook memories for making me cry on a daily basis). We never planned on having just one. While pregnant with Lillian, we bought a table with 6 chairs. I always envisioned having at least 3 kids. Sadly, my body had other plans and we decided what a gift we had been given. Lillian is the perfect mix of myself and my husband. She has his spunk and my caring demeanor. She sticks up for what she believes in, but has the biggest heart around. I’ve been told since her pre-school days what a kind kid she is and I’m not ashamed to admit that she makes me proud.
What I do have a hard time admitting is that she’s growing up. When she started spending more and more time in her bedroom alone, I felt the tables turning. She listens to a lot of music, is always making some sort of craft (heaven help me with her recent love affair of making mounds and mounds of slime) and can often be found talking to herself (you do what you gotta do when you’re an only child). When she came to me a couple of months ago and casually brought up that one of our favorite bands was touring, I brushed it off. Bring a 10 year old to a concert that wasn’t a teeny bopper band? I had my doubts. It wasn’t until a couple of weeks ago that I randomly decided to look up the ticket prices- only $35 each for seats (I knew general admission was out of the question). My first concert was New Kids on the Block. My mom had passed away by that point and when that memory came to my mind, I knew that I wanted to have that memory with her. I knew that we’d be able to sing the songs together and I knew that her first concert would be a memory that she’d always remember. So this past weekend, I got to do something fun with someone I love a whole lot (along with a pretty awesome husband who took a half day from work to drive us to the Mohegan Sun in CT and waited for us to get out since it was a mommy/daughter date)…..
Bonus points that she actually took a selfie with me. I need to work on her concert confidence……also known as the ability to sing out loud really loudy and be able to get up and dance, but since it was her first concert, I’ll cut her some slack!
The next day, we decided to head to Mystic Seaport. The weather was beyond horrible, but the plus side is that there were hardly any people there and we got to take our time (although we were running from building to building each time). We even headed to Mystic Pizza for a late lunch. I think Dan was skeptical when I told him about it (he’s never seen the movie) and I probably was a little bit as well. But the pizza seriously is THAT GOOD. I think that Rosalie’s Pizza in Bar Harbor, ME will always be our favorite (both for taste and sentimental reasons), but this scored a solid second best so I’d highly recommend it!
