Spring Renewal

This weekend, the temperature is forecasted to hit 75 degrees here in Southern Vermont……75 DEGREES!!!  I plan to take full advantage of it and the extra time with my family that I’ll have starting tomorrow.  Dan has been on business trips for 4 weeks straight and returned last night and he is using some vacation time for Thursday and Friday.  I see yummy breakfast, bread baking, playing outside and sewing in our future.  Add to that list the never-ending project of the downstairs remodel that we’re in the middle of.  The worst is yet to come with the sanding of the wood floor in the kitchen, but once it’s done, our house will truly be a home.  Just having the opportunity to sit at the table again, even amongst all of the drywall dust stuck to almost every surface in my home makes me happy.  I love that time together.  That being said, I’ll be happy when the remodel is over with and I can have a dust free home!  Otherwise, here’s a little peak into daily life at the Bombria house (taken with my point and shoot)….

Looking at that last photo made me realize that I really better start sewing her quilt this week before busy photography season begins!  I’m thankful for this slow time where I can re-group and set new priorities and goals!  Life is good!!

My new niece

A couple of weeks ago my new niece was brought into this world.  Sadly, because of the weather I wasn’t able to be there (it was a HORRIBLY windy day.)  Makayla made her entrance into the world much quicker than her sister Anna (which I’m sure my sister was thankful for!)  Two days later we drove home to visit, help out a bit and of course take some photos!  Lillian has this thing with babies…..the moment she sees one she runs up to them, points and says “awwwwww……wook at that coot baby.”  To say that she’ll be excited when we add another one to the family is an understatement!  We were very lucky that Grandma was able to watch Lillian and Anna during the day so that we didn’t have to worry about them running around and acting crazy which is pretty much what happens every time they hang out together!  So on Wednesday I headed over with most of my gear, besides my beanbag which I forgot yet again!  The most essential item that I forgot that they thankfully had was a space heater.  Placing the heater directly on little ones makes them super sleepy and even when they do wake up they typically fall right back asleep within moments.  I wish that I lived close enough to visit with her daily, but at least I have these photos on my computer to look at….

Isn’t she the sweetest?!  And I think that I see a hint of my sister in her (Anna is all daddy-kinda like Lilly!)  I’ll hopefully be back later this week with some photos of Lilly enjoying some much needed warm weather.  I’m so happy about the light in the evening…..so nice to get rid of the winter blues!!

A hectic winter

When I watched the clock count down on midnight New Years Eve at Tallie and Matt’s wedding, I thought that my winter would be a lot slower paced than it has been up until this point.  Being really sick three times since December with each cold effecting me for like a week or more didn’t really add much to that whole “I will rest” theme I was trying to go for.  Add to that a toddler, a major remodel on the first floor, a husband that travels for business a bunch (particularly this quarter….which leaves me rather cold at night!)……and well…..I’m pooped!  I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been taking a lot of naps lately.  The plus side of owning your own business is that I get to get up without an alarm clock and I can set my own schedule (have I mentioned that I hate alarm clocks?!)  The down sides…..well…..I work…..a lot!  I mean it’s midnight and I’ve been working since I got up this morning at 8 am.  Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do and I make sure that I set time aside for myself and my family since mental health certainly contributes to physical health.

That being said, I’m going to take a little break for me.  I received a new sewing machine for Christmas and two weeks ago I was finally able to put it to use and made a new tote bag for myself.  When I was done with it I realized how good it felt to finish it and how important it is to me that I sew Lillian’s quilt for her new big girl bed and not buy one in a store.  I want it to be something that she can grow up with, knowing that I spent many hours piecing it together and that I made it just for her.  I’ve held off on decorating her room until her new windows are put in this spring and once the quilt is done so it’s kind of a blank slate in there at the moment.

In other news this past weekend was a beautiful one.  Dan went skiing and watched the US Open at Stratton and me and Lilly did some grocery shopping and bought some supplies for our raised garden beds that we’ll be starting this year.  Dan didn’t put up as much of a fuss over them as I thought he would.  We’re going to be using some of the original wood from the house that Dan was able to save when we tore down the kitchen wall for the garden beds so it’s nice to be able to re-use them.  We started planting lavender and something else that I really can’t remember at this moment in the little kits that you buy at the hardware store…..guess I should have written it down on the stick!!  I’ve been thinking about buying some blueberry bushes as well since Dan and Lillian love them (they’re really not my thing) and I thought maybe I could make some jam as well.  I think that I’m turning into a mix of my grandmother and grandfather!  Gardening like my grandma and cooking and hopefully canning like my grandmother.  My love of the smell of dill comes from my grandma canning pickles in the basement.  So I totally need to stop the random stories that are all jumbled into one paragraph!  I’ll be back early next week with photos of my new niece but until then here’s a sneak peak….
